Who Are BetZone?

BetZone is a Playbook Gaming brand. This is the same company that launched BetZone, PlanetSport Bet and DragonBet. BetZone is the online arm of Bet21 (formerly Stan James) and has grown its online presence over the years to establish itself as a popular betting option in the UK.

  • Established in 2021

  • Playbook Gaming Ltd

  • UKGC licence number - 50122

First Impression of BetZone

By Luke Bradshaw Lee - This review will reflect the service offered at the specific point in time. I signed up on the desktop version of BetZone, but also used the mobile version to compare, as well as the BetZone app. It’s easy to use – there’s nothing sending you where you don’t want to go, and things feel intuitive. If you’ve used other Playbook products – Rhino Bet, BetZone etc. – you’ll feel very at home as the overall layout and functionality is the same.

That difference comes from the branding, with a focus on in-play betting and football betting.

BetZone homepage

BetZone Live Betting

A look around some other sportsbooks at the same time suggests that there isn’t quite the same number of markets that alternative sportsbooks may have, but there’s still a decent offering nonetheless. And actually, it’s worth highlighting that there are more in-play markets than you initially think. The main in-play section lists the major events, but if you can’t see what you’re after (tennis, in this instance) and navigate there through the A-Z Sports menu down the left-hand side, you do get to some in-play markets. It doesn’t quite make our list of best bookmakers for in-play betting but it’s still an excellent part of the BetZone product.

BetZone Live Streaming

As it stands BetZone offers live streaming on horse racing and greyhounds only. This is across desktop, mobile and their app and covers all UK and Irish races and events. It’s definitely worth pointing out that the quality of the stream that I watched was really good.

BetZone Betting Odds

A look through some comparison sites such as OddsChecker, as well as a deeper dive across alternative bookmakers, suggests that the odds offered at BetZone are pretty good. We checked football, cricket and tennis for in-play odds, plus a few other sports for pre-match stuff. They’re competitive, and as a bettor you’d be happy going with them, but there’s nothing that absolutely grabs you as the very best.

BetZone Betting App or Mobile Site

This BetZone review is undertaken across the app, as much as the desktop version, and I definitely preferred the app – it’s pretty good. As a regular bettor, it feels and behaves exactly how you want it to – there are no product features or user journeys that frustrate or confuse you.. It’s hard to judge for total novices, but I’d be very surprised if a betting newcomer couldn’t navigate easily through the options and find what they are after, and if you’ve used other Playbook brands, you’ll feel right at home. Overall, it’s a real highlight of the product that they offer.

BetZone Football Betting

Divided up clearly into sensible sections (UK, European Elite, Rest of Europe, Rest of World etc.), with different games to navigate available underneath, bettors can find the markets that they’re after swiftly and with little fuss. This doesn’t change across in-play and overall, this looks like an experienced team has put the package together. To dive into things a bit deeper, head to our best bookmakers for football betting to see if BetZone makes our list.

Bet Builder

All games with bet builder available have a small “B” logo displayed underneath, and this can be seen across most games. It’s once you start getting into non-league, or Rest of the World games that this begins to disappear. There’s an absolute load of markets within the feature which is great to see, although one criticism is that they’re not grouped, so it may take a little longer to find “player markets” for example.

Bonuses

The BetZone promos team are creating huge betting interest. As well as the welcome offer you have Snore Draw Bonus, where you get your money back if you bet (min £10) on a game and ends 0-0.

Cash Out

Cashout is a very important betting feature for punters these days so it's crucial that bookies integrate this feature into their mobile betting apps. BetZone have done this well allowing their customers to instantly cash out their bets on any device they like.

BetZone Horse Racing

The horse racing section at BetZone is very good. As expected, “Next Off” is front and centre, and it’s simple to scroll across and find all the meets for the day. This goes across the globe, too, not just UK and Irish races, as there is a huge list of global meets, too. These include Hobart, Tampa Bay Downs, Canterbury, Laurel Park and Fairview

Below is an A-Z, with Quick Picks, Build a Racecard and Ante Post options all available. The odds are good, competitive, but as mentioned, not the market-leading. You can live stream all domestic races if you’re logged in, and the small price history data graph is a lovely little touch.

You’ll get your money back if a horse you back is beaten by a nose on the flat, or by a neck of less on any jumps race.

BetZone US Sports Betting

A full range of American Sports is available. Of the major leagues in the US, there’s no MLB season currently, but it’s good to see some futures and outrights, regardless.

American Football Betting

UK bookmakers can anglicise American sports in an attempt to make them seemingly more attractive to UK users, and in my opinion, it never works. One example is just posting the moneyline odds for games on the main page. BetZone doesn’t do this, which is great to see.

Moneyline is obviously there, but it sits alongside the spread and totals, as it should. You want the three main markets listed from the off. Game markets look decent overall, but only for team markets. There is definitely a lack of player props, and that goes for outrights also. It’s worth checking out our best NFL betting sites to see how BetZone compares overall.

Basketball Betting

There is, of course, the NBA, but BetZone covers a wide range of EuroLeague and domestic world competitions, which is great to see. At the time of writing there are markets forTurkey, Greece, Croatia, Great Britain and Latvia, among others. The NBA season is mid-season, with lots of futures and outrights regarding division winners, plus a good selection of markets in each match-up. As with American football, however, there are no player props or futures. Keep tabs on the top basketball betting sites though, to see if they make it onto our list.

BetZone basketball markets

Baseball Betting

BetZone’s baseball section is fine, but it’s a bit tricky to tell right now given the lack of games. The markets that they do have for games is decent aside from that, but nothing to write home about.

Ice Hockey Betting

The NHL takes up the bulk of space here, as expected. But there are also some Slovakian, Finnish, and Czech fixtures included. One nice touch, and something I’ve noticed across a few sports (definitely American football and basketball) is either club logos or, even more useful in in-play betting on sports you may not know tons about, is teams’ uniforms next to their names. It’s a lovely little detail.

BetZone Greyhound Betting

You can live stream greyhound racing on BetZone (alongside horse racing). They have a full offering of UK and Irish races, and of the 15 different meets I saw, 14 of them featured live streaming (all clearly visible with a green play icon on each). You can sort through quick picks, build a racecard or go through their ante post markets.

BetZone Darts Betting

In terms of darts betting sites in the UK, BetZone is a decent option. There are markets for the European Tour, and Modus Series, with outrights on the PDC World Championships, and plenty of markets within. There are lots of options in-play, with odds changing swiftly. It’s good to know that the site and its odds are properly reflecting the action going on in what is a European Tour match.

BetZone Snooker Betting

By Steve Madgwick - As with the best snooker betting sites, there are markets for a few different tournaments, including the World Championships, the Masters and Scottish Open. On top of that, the odds look pretty good, and that goes for outrights on next year’s World Championships, as well as upcoming matches in some smaller tournaments.

Although the odds are generally good across the board, there is a slight lack of markets. For one selected match BetZone has result, handicap markets, total frames and correct score. There isn’t anything for centuries, highest breaks, race to (frames) or any more novelty bets like odd/even total frames etc. which means that there are a fair few other sites who can offer more.

BetZone Rugby Betting (Union & League)

By Luke Bradshaw Lee - This is pretty good from BetZone. Of course there are Six Nations outrights, alongside the Gallagher Premiership, Champions Cup, URC and Top 14. But there’s also the French D2, which you don’t see often. There is also a decent selection of rugby league competitions covered, also. This makes up for the fact that odds aren’t brilliant. Good enough to bet generally, but not the longest that you’ll find.  from a sportsbook. There does need to be more markets per match, but the odds that they do have are good when compared to our best Rugby betting sites.

BetZone Cricket Betting

By James Banting - In terms of the cricket on offer it’s a bit up and down with BetZone. There’s a really good amount of events and competitions covered, with Test series’, T20s and other ODIs, as well as some domestic competitions. The issue is that there aren’t as many markets per event as I would really like to see. Betway currently tops our Best Cricket betting site right now, with huge market depth, great odds and lots of promotions, so perhaps BetZone can follow their lead and up their offering.

BetZone Tennis Betting

By James Banting - Overall, I think the tennis betting at BetZone is pretty good. Across the site it’s definitely one of the better sports in terms of in-play coverage, and includes a live tracker with match stats once you’ve clicked through to the match’s markets. The odds are good, especially the in-play ones. It would be better if there were more events, and more market depth, but based on what is there it’s definitely above average. There aren’t any sport-specific promotions so that’s definitely something that would raise them in my eyes. If they could add in more markets, and some tennis-specific promotions, they’d definitely be closer to getting into the top 10 tennis betting sites on OLBG.

BetZone Golf Betting

By James Banting - In terms of current events, this does look pretty good, with lesser competitions listed among odds for the majors, Ryder and Solheim Cups and LIV tournaments. I really like the leaderboard for in-play events, with play by play info displayed that is better than most. On top of that, you can select specific holes, see their layout, and how the current players on that hole are going round. Generally, it’s all pretty excellent, and I’ll be coming back.

BetZone Motorsports Betting

By Andy Powell - Motor Sports bettors should be happy with the mixture of events at BetZone. Obviously, the F1 grand prix takes centre stage, understandably as we’re still in the middle of the season, and Formula 1 has its own title on the navigation, as is typical of most UK sportsbooks. The “Motor Sport” tab is where you’ll find everything else, including Speedway, Superbikes, Supercars and NASCAR (Cup Series, Truck Series and Xfinity Series all in there). F1 is particularly deep, with plenty of markets and driver specials for the upcoming Grand Prix.

BetZone Boxing Betting

By Frank Monkhouse former professional boxer - There’s lots of boxing bouts to get stuck into here, and the markets look dependent on timings. Those this weekend and over the next few weeks have a decent offering, whereas the further away they get the less markets on offer. That’s understandable, and I wouldn’t expect to find round by round and the like for fights that are months away. Overall, I like what BetZone is doing, even if there is a little bit of room for improvement.

BetZone Other Sports Betting

Whilst these sports might sound very niche, there is still a large enough market for fans, and millions of them in the UK, so good coverage of niche sports and events is key to be reviewed on OLBG; let’s dig in a bit further.

Handball Betting

Betting on handball at BetZone looks quite basic. The Champions League has just finished so there’s a bit of a lull in the sport right now, but BetZone only lists a few other fixtures. What is nice to see, and not something everyone does, is the Womens World Championships. Handball is increasingly popular and BetZone looks to be struggling in terms of providing a platform for punters to bet on various handball events and tournaments worldwide.

Cycling Betting

BetZone offers betting on cycling for sports bettors who like to dabble in cycling betting, and comparing it with others out there it’s what we’d expect. There isn’t a load of markets, but that’s true of anywhere to be honest. What you can get is odds on next year’s Tour de France winner.

Aussie Rules Football Betting

BetZone has no Aussie Rules football betting at the time of review.

Political Betting

BetZone has no political betting at the time of review.

Entertainment and Specials Betting

BetZone has no entertainment betting at the time of review.

Esports Betting

There are no esports markets at the time of writing.

Virtual Sports

BetZone has an excellent virtual sports section. Housed in the site’s main menu, alongside Sports, In Play and Casino, you can get straight to their virtual sports offering. There are five different football games, as well as basketball, motorsports, golf and, seeing as it’s BetZone, greyhounds and horse racing.

Casino

BetZone does have casino. Despite the name of the brand, it's incredibly easy to find their casino offering from their sportsbook, with banned across the top. They also have some bonuses and offers that lead to casino spins should you win sportsbook bets. Check our Casino Sites page for dedicated new online casinos and slot sites.

BetZone Account Opening Process

A reassuringly easy process. At the top-right of the screen BetZone has their “Sign Up” button. Bettors just need to select this and follow the simple steps as guided through. You’ll be asked for the usual information – name, date of birth, address etc – and once complete be sent a verification email. Clicking this from your inbox will redirect you to the site, and then you’re free to get betting.

Navigation and user experience [desktop v mobile]

The navigation, and the general app design is very good. You can look at it two ways: as a complete betting novice, or as an experienced bettor who has accounts elsewhere.

For the former, everything would feel intuitive. There’s a menu of sports down the left hand side, and offers down the right, with the main panel of markets front and centre. If you're struggling or lost at any point, there’s a search function in the top left of the screen that will allow you to immediately find where you’re going (or see that it's not there and stop your search).

For the experienced bettor, everything will feel familiar. There’s no attempt to jazz things up for the sake of being different – this is how you’d want it, and what you’ll be used to from a number of other sportsbooks.

Placing a bet

This section should only really highlight if there are issues, as the process is almost identical on every site. Within a few minutes of signing up to BetZone I placed a couple of bets on different sports, one of which took advantage of the welcome offer, and I used their bet builder feature, which was very indeed.

Managing your account

As mentioned above, the design really makes this tick. On the desktop version, it’s stuff left and right of screen (menu and search to the left, account and bets to the right). On the app, it’s top and bottom, with search, account and bets at the top, with a main nav bar at the bottom that can get you to different sports, in-play options and casino (plus return to the home page).

I haven’t experienced any issues logging in, or finding customer service options, either. Overall, it feels like BetZone has got this part nailed.

BetZone Responsible Gambling Features

All of this is housed in the Safe Zone. This is where BetZone has a tonne of responsible gambling features, including deposit limits, play break, self-exclusion and reality checks. There are also links to customer support, account closure and GAMSTOP, as well as other gambling counselling organisations. As well as this, on the same page they list links to the likes of the National Gambling Helpline, Be Gamble Aware and the National Gambling Treatment Service.

Bookie’ Review Expert Contributing Team

Opinion, research and data collection for this BetZone review by

BetZone Review Summary

BetZone, like any relatively new bookmaker, will always struggle to stand out against some of the industry’s big players. BetZone aims to do this through its focus on football and in-play betting.

Generally the odds are pretty good throughout, but there’s nothing that really stands out as amazing value, and the same could be said for the welcome offer, specifically. On top of that, some sports simply aren’t there, like volleyball or, more surprisingly, esports. That seems a glaring miss. Overally, it’s a solid effort however, but there’s definitely improvements that could be made.

The in-play options on some of the sports have good graphics and supporting stats – golf and tennis, in particular – while some sports are covered really well market/odds wise, such as darts and snooker, and the offers are decent. Lastly, the virtual sports offering is very good.
