The thoroughbred season at Evangeline Downs takes place between April and August.
Originally opened in 1966, the racetrack was moved to Opelousas in 2005. When opened it was the first 'Racino' built in the United States from the ground up.
The racetrack consists of both an oval turf and a dirt course. The dirt course is a one-mile course whilst the turf course is seven furlongs.
